Forgotten space

Oil on prepared paper

180 cm x 90 cm

“Forgotten space” deals with dark, unknown, and sometimes forgotten locations. The author attempts to portray her own coping and emotions related to an accident that inspired the creation of this work. By falling through a hole in an unfamiliar house, she found herself in a dark and strange place. By letting paint, oil, and thinner spill onto the canvas, the author loses control over the process and in doing so simulates the event she evokes. On the other hand, by gluing tape to certain parts of the painting and applying several layers of paint, she manages to set boundaries and achieve some degree of manipulation through which she attempts to “right the wrong” of the accident. The entire concept of foreign and dark space is brought to life by using black and white tones.
