Questioning art practices, Hidayatulloh, through his work Proyek Seni Rupa Aksi (Art and Action), embarks on a journey seeking a new cultural paradigm in art itself – one uninhibited by commodities or markets, and closer to human relations. The video in question shows the Sundanese community in Bandung (Indonesia), including their daily walks, meal preparations, and vernacular speech. The work is also realized in cooperation with mothers from said community. By “traversing” this meditative storyline – capturing intricate societal tasks – Hidayatulloh points us to a more humanistic mode of art. Far from large cities, without special technologies, exist gestures of nurturing solidarity – “pure like water, gentle as wind”.

Ivan Idrish Hidayatulloh (1999, Bandung, Indonesia) completed his MA at the Institute Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta in 2025 and is currently pursuing his PhD in Artistic Research at the same institution. He is mainly interested in artistic research, exploring archives of local knowledge, society and ecology. He believes that everything is interconnected: art, community, and ecology; art objects and non-art objects; through simple things, sporadically, in new and different ways than we were previously accustomed to. He also explores how everyday objects become an important part of artistic research practice, and their relations to social and contemporary issues.
