Neli Ljubičić’s work Family portrait is based on a book copy of Croatian language grammar which was, at one time, gifted to the author’s family. The same book is turned into a ready-made object made from stainless steel whereby it is deprived of its former functionality. By transforming this literature into a shiny and solid object, Neli Ljubičić explores the very language and cultural view to which a certain subject belongs and, in doing so, refers to the theory of Jacques Lacan.
